About the art auction in aid of the Brighton Open Air Theatre
News from Caia Matheson
'Hello Art Lovers
I just wanted to share with you the Art Auction details for the new
Amphitheatre that is currently under construction in Brighton
The Theatre is the brainchild of Adrian Bunting a playwright,
construction worker and man of grand ambitions.
When in 2013 Adrian found out he had weeks to live he began making
arrangements to realise one of his dearest dreams ...... an Open-Air
Theatre for Brighton!
Fast forward to 2015 and the Theatre is almost complete however more
funding is needed to finish and maintain the Amphiteatre.
Many artists including the legendary David Lloyd of V for Vendetta fame,
Cartoonist and regular contributor to Private Eye Guy Venables and
British Illustrator and Political Cartoonist for The Observer, Chris
Riddell have all donated work for this fabulous new Theatre venue.
I have also donated an original Oil Painting titled 'Wisdom Lies Beneath
The Bid for Boat totaliser is at £8387 today however £20K is needed to
pay the bills
ALL proceeds of the Auction go directly to the Brighton Open Air Theatre
Please share this with your friends and colleagues and help make this
exciting new venture happen
Thank you for supporting the arts

Saturday 6th September 2014
Brighton Mini Maker Faire took over the Corn Exchange on Saturday September 6th, where making mayhem ruled for the day.
The few cons – it was loud, very hot and oversold, with ticket holders having to wait to come in as it was at capacity, and the refreshments in the venue were incredibly expensive [almost £4 for one small cake??] We took a civilised tea and rock cakes break at the historic Pavilion Gardens Cafe nearby instead.
But in all a very successful day. Some impressions:
Lab Rat remaking sentimental items into jewellery and sculptures
Jewellery Macabre’s fantastical diesel punk creatures
Tiny wooden water and vacuum driven machines showing ancient hydraulics in action, surrounded by small children as fascinated by them as by the high tech toys
Cereal packets, corrugated cardboard, round scissors, glitter and glue … a traditional Blue Peter approach to building an entire city on the mezzanine floor
Scientific demonstrations, jewellery-making, sewing, toy-making … workshops everywhere
Crafting in wool, crochet, spinning, sewing – one group of spinners, dyers and knitters knitting a giant 18th century map of the North Laine
A table of knitted planets and felt fabric quarks, muons and bosons, created by school technicians showing some of the fun things they use for teaching
Electrically conductive paint and loads of 3D printing – a new technology at the beginning of its life, affordable and possible to DIY, its potential only beginning to be explored
A3D printed exo skeleton costume work in progress
Everything computer, internet and digital, plus the chance to play the banana piano
A friendly Dalek to hug
Children everywhere, getting stuck in and having fun

An Exhibition of Paintings, Drawings, Prints, Cartoons and work in Mixed Media, created by members of The Sussex Watercolour Society.
This is the Society’s 37th Annual Exhibition and at its heart is the wish and intention to showcase not only a superb selection of work in Watercolour but also the widest possible range of members’ work in other media, including Acrylics, Oils, Printmaking, Ceramics and Resin.
The Society has also invited sculptor Mike Chaikin to exhibit his work as a guest artist. His extraordinary kinetic sculptures created from sheet metal and Perspex will add yet another dimension to what will already be a very diverse and exciting Exhibition.
The Exhibition runs from Saturday 23rd – Sunday 31st August 2014.
Opening times are 11am – 5pm daily
26 members of the Society are planning to show work at this event and some of them will be presenting demonstrations of their working techniques. These will be taking place in the Gallery on Saturday 30th August and include demonstrations by Shirley Trevena RI, Kate Osborne and Frans de Leij.
The Preview of this Exhibition will be held on Friday 22nd August from 6pm – 9pm and, as it is a venue in the Lewes Artwave Festival, will be participating in the ‘First Friday’ event, a trail of venues holding Private Views and Previews on the 22nd August. Members of the public will be warmly welcomed.
