Seven Dials: Cecil Rice

Cecil Rice The Seven Dials Elm

Cecil Rice
The Seven Dials Elm

Constantly inspired by his love of Venice and Brighton, featuring glowing scenes of water, sky and architecture, Rice’s “Painting the Light” is very well named. Learn about tutored courses at his home studio [£55 per day], books and instructional DVDs too.My image of the Festival so far – Rice’s “ Seven Dials Elm” watercolour, sparked by the recent controversy over the Green Council’s attempt to chop down a venerable elm tree, survivor of Dutch Elm disease and iconic feature of Seven Dials, in order to facilitate a pavement-widening scheme. The tree survived, and the painting celebrates the success of local campaigners in protecting it from the axe.
